People Management

This is a large part of an EM's day to day job that should not be overlooked. I'll be penning down some thoughts, templates and frameworks that I use when I carry out my people management duties.

Why is People Management Important?

As an EM, your team is your greatest asset and probably the best indicator as to how well you are doing your job. It took me a while to get used to the idea that my success is no longer measured by my individual contributions, with the spotlight now on my team. This can be uncomfortable for some people who are new to the space of people management as this can often be a difficult and uncomfortable part of the job but without a healthy team, you will not be able to deliver high quality products.

Some key areas that I focused on:

  • 1:1s

  • Performance management

  • Hiring and growing your team

  • Delivering feedback

  • Team culture

  • Coaching and mentoring
